Make it Rain

Musings Experience Guide for Singin’ in the Rain

Our tip: Do not drink anything before the show and make sure you pee before you go in. The rain is, um, stimulating.

Food: Stop off for something quick at the Food Court in Monte before you go in. It’s super fun, but it’s also long.

Dress Code: Waterproof mascara and Wellington boots are essential for the Splash Zone rows.

After the show: If it’s raining, it is essential that dance around the square after the show. If it’s not raining, it is essential that you dance around the square after the show.

It’s an iconic song and it’s part of an iconic musical and when those familiar notes soared over the audience and the rain started pouring down, the audience burst in to spontaneous and rapturous applause. How wonderful to be cast in one of those roles that everyone knows… How thrilling to splash puddles of water over the audience. This must be one of the most fantastic musicals to be a part of as it was certainly one of the most amazing ones to watch.

I wrote about the auditions for Singin’ in the Rain that happened almost two years ago. Fun is a good word to describe this musical. You cannot help but leave with a smile on your face and the uncontrollable urge to pee. My advice is to make sure you’re thoroughly dehydrated before you walk in to the theatre. Since all the rain scenes happen at the very end of the two acts, you are likely to be one of thousands of audience members queuing to go to the loo at interval.

You must see this musical! It is just so much fun and is the perfect feel-good musical for all ages. The old for nostalgia and the young for the insatiable slapstick comedy. I enjoyed it so much that I forgot to feel sad that I wasn’t in it. I honestly can’t fault it and I would never have wanted to.
